The UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) has made available an 'Impulse Report' and a 'Book of Abstracts' in advance of the UNCCD 3rd Scientific Conference, which will convene from 9-12 March 2015, in Cancún, Mexico.

This work aimed to review the aspect of desertification, its concept, causes and its control with special reference to Sudan. It appeared that there was a wide controversy among scientists on the concept of desertification and its causes.

This paper shows that any dedicated use of land for growing bioenergy inherently comes at the cost of not using that land for growing food or animal feed, or for storing carbon. It recommends several policy changes to phase out forms of bioenergy that use crops or that otherwise make dedicated use of land.
