The Garo, Khasi and Jaintia Hills region, with its unique landscape, climatic phenomenon of heavy cloud cover and torrential rainfall, and agricultural richness involving the majority of the population, has been proposed as another National Agricultural Biodiversity Heritage Site based on six indices.

Soybean, the 'Golden Bean' is an important oilseed and pulse crop containing about 20% edible oil and 40% protein. Soybean being legume crop, mainly draw nutrients from native pool of soil therefore the incremental doses of fertilizers will not help in increasing the productivity, rather the function of beneficial microbes particularly, that of nitrogen fixing ones will be decreased.

According to a study from a group of environmental scientists at the University of Kuopio in Finland, human urine and wood ash make a reasonably potent tomato fertilizer, boosting plant growth and fruit yield dramatically over untreated plants and nearly keeping pace with conventional fertilizer.

In economies across the world, agriculture once considered more a way of life, is now seen as a potential for commercial propositions. Currently corporate intervention in agriculture is seen in many forms, right from direct farming activities to business in related areas pertaining to agriculture and the rural economy.

Various samples of groundwater were collected from different areas in and around the Punnam village of Karur District, India and analyzed for their physicochemical characteristics. The results of this analysis were compared with the water quality standards of WHO and CPHEEO.

Surface water and groundwater samples of certain locations namely Kallambella, Bugudanahalli, Maidala, Honnudike, Kunigal, Kadaba and Hebbur, situated around Tumkur were assessed in the month of September 2008 for pH, EC and heavy metals Cd, Cu, Fe, Hg, Mn, Zn and Ni. The pH vales of surface waters were in alkaline range of 7.8-8.2 and are well within safe limits for crop production.

In March 2010, large scale corruption in the implementation of NREGA waa exposed in Fatehpura block of Dahod district (Gujarat). The massive scale of the corruption is evident from the fact that NREGA authorities got a complaint of cheating registered with the police against 16 persons.
